Heath Violin Studio Policy

Participation Expectations for Students

Students are expected to:

● Listen to your pieces daily

● Take notes in lessons

● Have a daily practice log

● Participate in recitals and group classes

● Ask questions and try your best!

● Practice at least 5 days a week so that notable progress is made

● Be prepared for lessons (with pencils, erasers, all books, and completed theory or other projects)

Expectations for Parents

Starting a new instrument is exciting but can be very challenging! Your job as the parent is to encourage the student to want to practice. Practicing is the only way for your student to improve their playing! For students under 10 years old, a parent or guardian is expected to attend lessons and help guide daily practice. Please plan to arrive a few minutes before each lesson. This will allow enough time before your lesson to unpack your instrument and become ready for your lesson time. All students will experience ups and downs, especially “practicing.”

Required Materials

Students are expected to be responsible for his/her materials, not their parents. Please bring to each lesson: a violin, shoulder rest, practice notebook/binder, all assigned music, and a pencil. If you are considering upgrading your instrument or moving up a size, please consult with me first.

Student Recitals and Group Classes

All students must participate in recitals and group classes

Studio recitals will happen four times a year, all students are highly encouraged to participate and attend each one in support of their peers. By participating, students will not only grow and develop in performing solos, duets, trios, and in an ensemble but also the skill of working with others outside of the teacher.

Group classes allow the students to learn more about the type of music they are playing and grow the skill of sight

reading, understanding rhythms, the value of notes, and providing a sense of community.

Please arrive ten minutes before group classes or dress rehearsals and fifteen minutes before recitals.

For advanced students, a pianist will be provided for each solo performance but it is up to you to schedule a time with the pianist for extra rehearsals outside of your regular lesson time. It is also up to you to pay the pianist for their time of rehearsals and performances.

Cancellations / Make-up Lessons

If you need to cancel your lesson, you must notify me at least 24 hours before your scheduled time. Exceptions will be made for emergencies, in which case you may notify me on the day of the lesson. If you fail to notify me of a cancellation within the specified time, you will forfeit that lesson, and no makeup lesson will be provided. Additionally, I will still be compensated for the missed lesson.

If I am traveling to your residence and you notify me of the cancellation within the hour of the lesson, the same policy applies: you will forfeit the lesson, no makeup will be provided, and I will still be paid for the lesson.

Excused cancellations will be given make-up lessons at the end of the term or within the month. If a student cannot attend a scheduled make-up lesson, the lesson will be forfeited. Make-up lessons are not guaranteed and are subject to availability. If a makeup lesson is not possible, a maximum of one lesson credit will be applied toward the following month.

No Refund Policy

All lesson package payments are non-refundable. If a student decides to discontinue lessons, no refunds will be issued for unused lessons. To receive the full value of their package, students must complete all scheduled lessons within the designated session time frame.

By enrolling in lessons, students (or their parent/guardian, if applicable) acknowledge and agree to abide by all studio policies, including this no-refund policy.

Please understand, that you are not just paying for a lesson but also a scheduled time slot.
